Hummingbirds And Their Homes | David Rives

Tiny homes are all the rage these days. There are even TV shows dedicated to showcasing these little custom dwellings. But if you think that 300 square feet is minimalist, what if I told you about a comfortable home with a floor plan of less than one – square inch! That’s right, for the average hummingbird family, one square inch is a mansion.

The female camouflages the nest with bits of moss in such a way that you’d probably think it was just a knot on a limb, even if you were looking right at one. She holds it together with spider webs! And well within a month, the young are out of the nest and doing the amazing job they were designed to do.

In the Biblical book of Matthew, we read that our Heavenly Father feeds the birds of the air, and then, Jesus asks: “Are ye not much better than they?” While hummingbirds are truly incredible creatures, we, as humans, have been designed in such a way that we can study God’s creation.

Head on outside today, and give God the glory!

If this fascinates you, you should really consider getting a copy of Refracted Glory – the Hummingbird Documentary. It’s an hour and a half, with an original music soundtrack, slow-motion video of Hummingbirds in flight, and the details about how these creatures didn’t happen by chance. I was asked to host it, and we go on location around the country to study these birds. Check out the award-winning DVD by going to creationsuperstore.com/hummingbird
