If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do? Sir Isaac Newton was, and still is, a great influence in science. His legendary work on gravity, said to have been spurred by an apple falling from a tree, has become an iconic part of history.
So, what was this great scientist’s foundation of faith?
“God created everything by number, weight and measure.” “It is the perfection of God’s works that they are all done with the greatest simplicity. He is the God of order and not of confusion.” “Truth is ever to be found in simplicity, and not in the multiplicity and confusion of things.”
“Gravity explains the motions of the planets, but it cannot explain who set the planets in motion. God governs all things and knows all that is or can be done.”
“Atheism is so senseless & odious to mankind that it never had many professors. Can it be by accident that all birds beasts & men have… just two eyes and no more on either side the face and just two ears on either side the head… two arms on the shoulders and two legs on the hips, one on either side and no more? Whence arises this uniformity… but from the counsel and contrivance of an Author? Did blind chance know that there was light… and fit the eyes of all creatures after the most curious manner to make use of it? These and such like considerations always have and ever will prevail with man kind to believe that there is a being who made all things and has all things in his power and who is therefore to be feared.”
Newton’s Laws of Motion contains a well-known law: “To every action there is always opposed an equal reaction” Let us use that law in our faith… Every action taken to remove God from science, let us oppose it with an equal action to ensure that God stays at the forefront of our lives.
