The book of Genesis describes a 7 day creation week. But were they really days, or long spans of time as some teachers would have you believe?
Scholars conclude that it is most likely: The Hebrew word ‘yom’, or day, as found in the creation account refers to a literal, 24 hour day- and NOT long periods of time as required by evolutionary theory. Careful study reveals that any time a numerical reference precedes the word ‘yom’, or day, it specifies a literal 24 hour day. This is what we see over and over again in Genesis 1.
Consider Genesis 1:5:
“And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.”
If you had never researched these issues and read Genesis 1 for the first time, would you ever get the idea that when it says day, it means anything other than…day?
Another important consideration is the constant use of phrases like “the evening and the morning were the first day”. Not only are numbers associated with the word day, but the description “evening and morning” makes it plain that a 24 hour day is indicated.
Biblical days start and end at sundown. Evening represents the dark portion of the day after sundown, and morning represents the light portion from the time the sun comes up till that evening when it sets, and starts another day.
Yeshua, Jesus Himself spoke of the light and dark portions of a 24 hour day when he said:
“If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world. But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him.”
Evolutionists truly stumble in the dark when they grasp at straws interpreting the plain language of the book of Genesis. Not only do they stumble, but their unproven theories cause others to do likewise, and just as our Savior stated: …If the blind lead the blind, they shall both fall into the ditch.
